Stories of Chingay: A Meaningful Contribution as a Performer

In 2025, I had the honour of becoming one of the participants. This experience allowed me to see Chingay beyond the spectacle and gain a deeper appreciation of the hardwork, commitment and teamwork that take place behind the scenes

“What Chingay Means to Me
Chingay holds a special place in my heart as it represents the vibrant spirit and unity of Singapore. Although the Chingay procession originated in Penang in 1824, Singapore’s first Chingay procession began in 1840. Over time, it has evolved into a significant national celebration that reflects our multicultural and cosmopolitan identity. As a Singaporean, I feel a deep sense of pride in this festival and its rich heritage.
I have always enjoyed watching Chingay and attended the procession as a spectator for many years. I am fascinated by its vibrant colours, the celebration of diverse cultures, and especially the spectacular fireworks displays that light up the night sky.
In 2025, I had the honour of becoming one of the participants. This experience allowed me to see Chingay beyond the spectacle and gain a deeper appreciation of the hard work, commitment, and teamwork that take place behind the scenes.
As a Singaporean and an alumnus of SUSS, my participation is a small yet meaningful contribution that I am proud to make. Chingay truly represents Singapore’s unique cosmopolitan spirit and its rich multi-ethnic culture.
I look forward to participate in Chingay 2026.”
