Different ethnic groups present their best traditional celebrations … exciting lion and dragon dances and float drumming by the Chinese community groups, joget dance and silat, a Malay martial arts, by the Malay community and also Thaipusam drumming by the Indian community
Chingay was launched in 1973 during Chinese New Year to highlight the multicultural aspects of Singapore. Chingay showcases Singapore’s rich ethnic diversity through elaborate floats, costumes, and performances from various communities, including Chinese, Malays, Indians, and Caucasians.
Different ethnic groups present their best traditional celebrations, for example: exciting lion and dragon dances and float drumming by the Chinese community groups, joget dance and silat, a Malay martial arts, by the Malay community and also Thaipusam drumming by the Indian community. There are also various song and dance performances by the other Western and Asian neighbours representative groups.
Buses and lorries are converted into beautiful floats with themed lighting and decorations. People from different ethnic groups dress in their traditional attire and dance along the designated routes. It is an occasion that is a feast for the eyes.
