Stories of Chingay: An intangible cultural heritage to be treasured

In recent years, the performances have been decentralised into neighbourhoods so that all citizens can benefit. It brings joy and excitement with its beautiful and elaborate floats, as performers perform on top of the moving platforms.

Chingay is an annual festive event organised by the People’s Association in collaboration with grassroots organisations, usually held during Chinese New Year.

In recent years, the performances have been decentralised into neighbourhoods so that all citizens can benefit. It brings joy and excitement with its beautiful and elaborate floats, as performers perform on top of the moving platforms. This annual event brings people of all races and cultures together. It helps the citizens of Singapore appreciate and understand one another’s cultures better.

We look forward to seeing Chingay being included on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) list as our living heritage.
