Stories of Chingay: Orchard Road Parades

Madam Chin Moi, aged 83, fondly recalls watching the Chingay parade with her late mother in the 1980’s, when the procession was held along Orchard Road.  She described how they would go there early before 3pm to try to get a good spot to watch the parade, as the parade was held in the afternoon then. The exciting and lively performances brought life to the streets lined with enthusiastic spectators. Apart from the occasion at Orchard, her other memories of Chingay were from watching the televised broadcasts during the evenings in later years, after dinner with the family.  Despite the passage of time, the memories remained vivid and meaningful as they are an important celebration with everyone welcoming the Chinese New Year.
